A healthcare partnership built on trained people, responsive service and continuous improvement
Cleaning within a private mental health hospital requires care, consistency and an understanding of the environment. Teams work around patients, clinicians and hospital employees throughout the day, maintaining cleaning standards while respecting privacy and supporting daily operations.
Since June 2025, SCS Group has worked with Avive Health to deliver specialist healthcare cleaning and integrated facility support. Beginning with two hospitals in Victoria and Queensland, the partnership expanded in August 2026 to include Avive Health’s third hospital in Alphington, Melbourne.
That growth reflects a relationship built through consistent service delivery, close communication and a willingness to adapt as the hospitals’ requirements evolve.
A partnership spanning Victoria and Queensland
Avive Health is a specialist private mental health provider operating purpose-built hospitals that support inpatient and outpatient care.
Following a competitive tender process, SCS Group commenced services on 1 June 2025 at:
- Mount Eliza, Victoria: 60 private, ensuited patient bedrooms.
- Windsor, Queensland: 63 beds across a multi-level facility.
SCS Group’s integrated service capability was an important factor in the appointment, providing scope to support Avive Health beyond daily cleaning.
On 10 August 2026, SCS Group commenced services at Avive Health’s newly opened 32-bed Alphington hospital, extending the partnership across three facilities.
Cleaning programs tailored to active hospital environments
Operating 365 days a year, Avive Health’s hospitals require cleaning programs that accommodate patient activity, clinical requirements and changing operational priorities.
SCS Group provides daily cleaning of patient rooms, amenities and shared spaces, together with high-touch-point cleaning and patient room cleaning following admissions and discharges.
The scope also includes:
- Infection prevention and control procedures.
- Linen handling.
- Waste collection and segregation.
- Consumables supply and management.
- Periodical and specialist cleaning.
Coverage extends from early morning through to evening, seven days a week, including weekends and public holidays.
Approximately 12 cleaning personnel, including casual team members, support the original Mount Eliza and Windsor hospitals, with additional personnel supporting Alphington.
Preparing people for specialist healthcare cleaning
Working within a mental health hospital requires personnel who understand both the cleaning requirements and the need to deliver services safely and discreetly.
All SCS Group personnel complete site-specific induction and healthcare training. This covers hand hygiene, infection prevention, personal protective equipment, colour-coded cleaning systems, correct chemical selection and dilution, high-touch-point cleaning, linen handling and waste management.
Training also addresses site hazards, spill response and the correct identification, segregation and handling of general, clinical, cytotoxic and sharps waste.
Permanent, part-time and casual personnel are trained to the same site requirements, helping maintain consistency when rosters change or additional coverage is required.
Regular toolbox talks, on-site training and healthcare-specific standard operating procedures reinforce these practices throughout the contract.
Quality assurance supported by reporting and review
Consistent service delivery depends on clear expectations, regular monitoring and a practical process for addressing issues.
Across the Avive Health partnership, SCS Group maintains structured auditing and documentation covering service performance, attendance, infection prevention and control, training, incidents and corrective actions.
A detailed report is provided each month ahead of a formal review meeting with Avive Health. This gives both teams visibility over performance and creates an opportunity to discuss operational requirements and improvements.
The auditing, documentation and reporting also support Avive Health’s HCMIR requirements.
Where an opportunity for improvement is identified, the teams work together to review the issue, strengthen procedures, retrain personnel where required and report on the actions undertaken.
Integrated support beyond daily cleaning
As the relationship has developed, SCS Group’s responsibilities have expanded to include additional services across the hospital portfolio.
These include carpet steam cleaning, monthly hard-floor scrubbing, window cleaning and grounds and gardening support at Mount Eliza.
At Mount Eliza, the SCS Group supervisor also assists with facilities coordination, supporting contractor access and directing tradespeople to the relevant areas of the hospital.
This broader support helps Avive Health coordinate day-to-day facility requirements through an established service relationship.
The integrated approach is also reflected in how the cleaning teams work on site. SCS Group personnel wear Avive Health uniforms and operate as part of the broader hospital team, supported by site induction, ongoing supervision and clear service expectations.
Growing from two hospitals to three
The partnership has continued to evolve alongside Avive Health’s operational needs.
At Mount Eliza, cleaning resources increased from approximately four personnel at commencement to around six. A similar progression occurred at Windsor, alongside additional periodical cleaning and broader facility support.
The addition of Alphington marked a further step in the relationship. SCS Group established seven-day cleaning coverage through a combination of full-time and part-time personnel, supporting the first stage of Avive Health’s plans for the site.
For SCS Group, the expansion demonstrates the importance of being responsive throughout a contract: listening to the client, strengthening the service model and providing the people and systems needed as requirements change.
A responsive partnership
Jennifer Lavery, Chief Projects Officer at Avive Health, describes the relationship:
“SCS Group has been a reliable and responsive partner to Avive Health. They understand the standards required within our hospital environments and have worked closely with our team to continually strengthen service delivery. Their willingness to listen, respond and adapt has been an important part of the relationship and has given us confidence to expand the partnership across additional facilities.”
The partnership now combines specialist cleaning coverage across three hospitals with healthcare-specific training, structured quality assurance and integrated facility support.
It demonstrates how a cleaning relationship can develop over time, supporting both the daily requirements of individual hospitals and the growth of a healthcare provider’s wider portfolio.
