From frontline experience to capability at scale
SCS Group began with firsthand experience of the work our people perform every day.
More than 25 years ago, Managing Director Nicholas Pastras entered the cleaning and soft-services industry on site. That experience gave him a practical understanding of what clients need: reliable delivery, clear communication, responsive leadership and people who take responsibility for the outcome.
In 2009, he founded Smart Cleaning Solutions in Victoria with a small group of clients and a belief that the industry could do better. As clients expanded, the business expanded with them.
Smart Cleaning Solutions evolved into SCS Group –a commercial cleaning and integrated services partner supporting organisations across Australia and New Zealand.
The scale of the business has changed, but its operating foundations have not. We stay close to our operations, back our people and deliver what we commit to.
Today, Nicholas Pastras, Chief Executive Officer Glyn Davies and an experienced executive and operational team provide the commercial discipline, operational leadership, technology and people capability required for SCS Group’s next phase of sustainable growth.
Our journey
From a home office in Upper Beaconsfield to an organisation operating across Australia and New Zealand, SCS Group’s story reflects steady growth, practical innovation and continued investment in people, systems and capability.
Foundation
Smart Cleaning Solutions was established from a home office in Upper Beaconsfield, with a clear focus on reliable, service-led commercial cleaning.
Building the first team
The first employees and branded vehicles were introduced, followed by the business’s first office at Toorak Corporate Centre in Malvern.
Expanding beyond Victoria
The business entered its first interstate market, beginning the development of a broader national operating footprint.
Investing for growth
SCS Group purchased its first Ricketts Road office, reflecting the growing scale of the business and its long-term ambitions.
Strengthening standards
SCS Group achieved certification across quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management systems, reinforcing a structured approach to delivery and continuous improvement.
A decade and greater capacity
SCS Group marked 10 years in business, acquired a second Ricketts Road office and expanded its office footprint to support continued growth.
15 years and a recognised workplace
SCS Group celebrated 15 years in business and achieved Great Place to Work certification for the first time.
SCS Indigenous launched
Co-founders Scott McCartney and Nicholas Pastras launched SCS Indigenous (SCSi), an Aboriginal-owned business combining commercial capability with meaningful social and community impact. The Bandum Fund was also established to support opportunities for Aboriginal people across education, sport, culture, leadership and professional development.
A new chapter
SCS Group expanded into New Zealand and relocated to its new headquarters in Ringwood, supporting continued growth, collaboration and national coordination.
Commercial cleaning at our core
Cleaning expertise. Integrated support.
Commercial cleaning remains our core discipline. It shapes how we supervise teams, manage risk, measure performance and respond when conditions change.
For clients seeking broader facility support, we also coordinate hygiene, waste and recycling, pest control, grounds maintenance and minor facility maintenance through self-delivery and carefully selected specialist partners. Every service is managed through clear governance, reporting and a single point of accountability
Why purpose-driven?
Because our purpose goes beyond delivering high quality commercial cleaning and integrated services.
We aim to create lasting value for clients, people and communities through partnerships grounded in trust, opportunity and measurable outcomes. What we do delivers operational excellence; how we do it builds enduring value.
What our structure provides:
- Clear executive and operational accountability
- Layered management and on-site supervision
- Quality, safety and environmental systems certified to recognised ISO standards
- Real-time service visibility through Smart Connect, our secure digital operating platform
- Scalable infrastructure for single-site and national portfolios
Structure that supports scale
Built for consistent delivery
Growth without the right infrastructure can lead to inconsistency. Large and multi-site facilities need accountable leadership, reliable supervision and systems that make performance visible.
As SCS Group has expanded across Australia and New Zealand, we have invested in governance, state-based operational management, safety and people frameworks, certified management systems and digital reporting so growth does not outpace our ability to deliver consistently.
Innovation that improves outcomes
Technology is embedded into the way we operate, providing greater visibility, stronger accountability and better operational performance across every site.
From Smart Connect and workforce verification to robotics and environmental technologies, our connected ecosystem supports safer, more efficient and more consistent outcomes
Purpose in action
SCS Group embeds social and environmental responsibility into how the business operates.
Through SCSi, the Bandum Fund, employment pathways and long-term community partnerships, we support practical initiatives designed to create meaningful, measurable impact.
People first, always
Our people define the experience clients receive. We invest in recruitment, training, leadership and support so teams understand what is expected and have the tools to succeed.
Through SCS Together, our 2026–2029 diversity, equity and inclusion strategy, we are working to strengthen representation, fairness, belonging and opportunity across our workforce and supply chain.
Accredited systems.
Recognised culture.
Our systems are certified to ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety. These frameworks support consistent delivery, responsible operations and continuous improvement.
SCS Group has also been Great Place to Work Certified for three consecutive years, reflecting the importance we place on employee experience and workplace culture.
